Reflecting on Hyundai’s Flourishing 20-Year Journey Down Under

Hyundai Motor Company Australia has achieved a significant milestone, reaching the sale of its two millionth new vehicle in the country. To mark this occasion, Hyundai delivered its two millionth car, a white Hyundai Kona, to a customer at its Australian headquarters – a site inaugurated in 1986.

Hyundai Dealerships in Australia Driving Success

The magnitude of this achievement is underscored by the fact that it took 26 years for Hyundai to achieve one million sales in Australia in 2012, and a comparatively brief 11 years to double that number. This not only speaks to Hyundai’s popularity but also reflects the support the global brand has earned in Australia.

Starting with a single dealership in 1986, Hyundai introduced the Excel, later becoming Australia’s best-selling car. The two millionth vehicle, a Kona, mirrors the prevailing trend towards SUVs and crossovers in Australia, supported by Hyundai’s diverse lineup including the Venue, Kona, Tucson, Santa Fe, and Palisade.

Part of Hyundai’s successful journey in Australia is Frankston Hyundai, a Melbourne-based dealer proudly supported by the Jefferson Automotive Group. Earning the trust of Bayside and beyond, we strive in providing excellence in sales and servicing from our Seaford dealership.

Ted Lee, Hyundai Motor Company Australia CEO, expressed gratitude for the customers who contributed to this milestone. He highlighted Hyundai’s commitment to delivering high-quality products and services and looked forward to a vision of zero emissions by 2045.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support of each and every buyer that has contributed to this milestone,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, Ted Lee.

“Hyundai is firmly etched into the Australian automotive landscape and we are hugely appreciative of the trust and loyalty so many people have placed in our brand, not least the heroes in the police, ambulance and emergency services who rely on our vehicles. As a thanks to all our loyal customers, we will continue to strive to deliver exceptional products and services, as we advance towards our vision for zero emissions by 2045,” he said.

“It’s fitting that our two millionth buyer is in the state where it began for our brand 37 years ago and a special thank you is on the way to our new customer so they can share in our celebrations.”

Hyundai in Australia: 20 Years of Evolution

Hyundai

Established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company in 2003, Hyundai Motor Company Australia has witnessed significant milestones, from achieving 500,000 sales in 2004 to becoming the fifth most-popular car brand in Australia in 2022. Hyundai’s consistent growth has been embraced nation-wide by Australians.

Hyundai’s commitment to the Australian community is evident through initiatives like Hyundai Help for Kids, donating a portion of proceeds from every car sold to children’s charities, totaling over $12 million since 2014. The company is also actively engaged in various sports partnerships and initiatives.

At Frankston Hyundai, local community support is a priority. We proudly sponsor World BMW Athlete, Bella May, who recently achieved a podium finish in the Women’s World Cup.
